Osama Ata

Dr. Ata is an Associate Professor at Palestine Polytechnic University in Hebron, working in the department of electrical engineering and a key member in the telecommunications program. He received his B.Sc. (Hon) degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Hull, UK, the M.Sc. degree and the Ph.D. degree, in Antenna Systems and Microwave Propagation, from the University of Wales, Cardiff, UK.

He joined the University of Wales, Bangor, UK to carry out research funded postdoctoral work in medical Doppler Ultrasound for over three years. He was afterwards appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Communications Engineering, Yarmouk University in Jordan. For two years until Dec. 1996, he went as a Visiting Scholar to Victoria University of Technology in Melbourne Australia. He accepted a faculty appointment and was afterwards promoted to Associate Professor at the Dept. of Electronic Engineering, Al-Quds University in Jerusalem between Jan 1997 – Aug 1999. He came to Stanford University (California) , in Sep 1999 , as a Visiting Research Scholar working in the smart antennas research group. He was, then, offered a Principal RF engineer and a senior consultant appointment with SPRINT-Advanced Technology Labs for over five years. On July 1st, 2005, he was appointed as the CTO of an ICT company in Palestine, taking responsibility of three technical departments besides Research and Development.

Since Dr. Ata’s appointment at PPU in Hebron,  he was on two short visiting fellowships to Villanova University in USA, during Fall 2011 and Summer 2012, funded by AMIDEAST’s Palestinian Faculty Development Program. Dr, Ata teaches courses in Antennas and Propagation, Microwave Communications, Radar Systems, Electromagnetics and Transmission Line Theory. His research interests are in microwave horn antennas, microstrip antennas, Radio Frequency propagation, In-building penetration loss modelling and measurement, electromagnetic radiation and RF cellular planning.
