Programs

1. Building Engineering Program

The growing demand for the provision of new facilities in buildings requires special qualifications and skills to carry through the various stages of building erection i.e. design, supervision and execution. It is true that safety, economics and speed are the major requirements in any building project. Also, mechanical and electrical facilities are basics in all buildings projects. Therefore, to facilitate various stages of building project execution especially in the absence of the electrical and mechanical engineers, a certain qualification that combines the four fields of engineering related to building technology is of great importance. This has motivated the College of Engineering and Technology to prepare a detailed study for a B.E program in Building Engineering. The program is supposed to cover the four fields of engineering required for building construction i.e. civil, architectural, mechanical and electrical engineering.

2. Surveying and Geomatics Engineering

Surveying and Geomatics Engineering includes the science of making measurements to determine the relative positions of points on or rear the earth’s surface (surveying) and the science of making accurate measurements from photographs or other types of imagery (photogrammetry). Surveying principles and techniques are utilized in all phases of construction in order to determine distance, direction, difference of elevation, and relative position. Surveying serves primarily as tool of civil engineers. Without surveying there could be no orderly determination of the physical characteristics of a project site, no intelligent basis for design, and no means of translating drawings into an airport, a dam, or a highway. Photogrammetric and geodetic engineering is highly specialized field of surveying. It advances our knowledge of the earth and of outer space by developing new and highly accurate surveying techniques.

From this point of view, Surveying and Geomatics Engineering program was established in 1998 under the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering of the College of Engineering and Technology to provide the Palestinian communities with qualified surveying engineers to contribute to this field of study. Since its establishment, the Civil and Architectural Engineering Department has successfully provided the Palestine Government and private sector with many top quality surveying engineers.

The message of the program is summarized in graduating a qualified workforce in the field of construction, infrastructure, roads and the environment to meet the needs of the increasing demand in this field, and to solve the problems facing the Palestinian society and regional societies by finding creative solutions to the construction problems and the problems of roads and transportation. The mission of this program also aims to create opportunities for scientific research by qualifying graduates for postgraduate studies, which ensures the sustainability of the Palestinian community in the practical, applied field and scientific research. This message is fully consistent with the mission of the College of Engineering and the mission of Palestine Polytechnic University

4. Environmental Technology Engineering (ETE)

The department of Environmental Technology Engineering (ETE) was launched in 2011 as a step towards achieving the vision of Palestine Polytechnic University “The University of Science and Technology and Global Innovation”. The program aims at graduating engineers with solid knowledge in environmental engineering, science and technology to protect the environment and to be aware of all pollution causes and the technologies applied in treating and managing the wastes and effluents.  The program is composed of 162 credit hours spread over 5 academic years (10 semester). The curricula is well formulated to cover all environmental aspects including water quality, municipal and industrial wastewater treatment, design of wastewater treatment plants, air pollution and control, global warming and climate change, soil contamination  and remediation, environmental legislation and management as well as environmental impact assessment. Upon graduation, the graduates of this program will be well equipped theoretically and practically to pursue their career in a professional and ethical manner that satisfy their employers. The graduates are expected to be employed at different public and private sectors including ministries, municipalities, water authority, and environmental quality authority, environment health department, civil defense NGO’s, research centers and groups, wastewater treatment plants, food, chemical and water treatment industries.
