The Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory is one of the newest laboratories in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, it was established in 2021 with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The laboratory is concerned with applications and research in the field of robotics, as it contains robotic arms and various mobile robots, and is the first of its kind in Palestine in this field.

About the Lab
Equipment & Tools
- 2 * Franka-Emika Panda Robot (7DOF Robotic Arm)
- 1 * KUKA KR3 R540 (6DOF Robotic Arm)
- 2 * Neobotix MP-400 (Indoor Diff-Drive Mobile Robot)
- 1 * Neobotix MP-500 (Outdoor Diff-Drive Mobile Robot)
- Advanced computers capable of processing complex tasks such as simulations, image processing, and machine learning.
Safety
- Operate the robots only under supervision of an expert.
- Make sure all persons are at a safe distance from the robots before operating them, to ensure the safety of the people.
- Make sure there are no uncontrolled obstacles in the robots’ operational space before operating them, to ensure the safety of the robots and the environment.
- Simulate the motion of the robots, if possible, to ensure they work as intended before operating them.
- Operate the robots in reduced speeds initially, to ensure they work as intended before moving to high speeds.
Courses
-
Master Degree Courses
- Robot Dynamics and Control
- Mobile Robots
- Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
- Master theses related to Robotics
-
Bachelor Degree Courses
- Robot Dynamics and Control

Skills
- Equip the students with the needed practical skills to operate, control, and plan the motion of robotic arms and mobile robots, and harness them to do intelligent tasks such as recognition, interaction, mapping, and autonomous navigation in the environment.
- Introduce the students to and train them on using “Robot Operating System (ROS)”, the specialized software in operating and controlling robots.
- Open the door for students to test and apply their ideas, and guide them in their research in the field of intelligent robotics.
